Journeyman’s piece – grade 4.7, silver medal
This cabinet is a love story in wood, inspired by my hometown of San Antonio and the tale of Roberto Parra and Estér, known as “La Negra Estér”. They met at the brothel Luces del Puerto – “Harbour Lights” – where the city’s pulse and life thrived in both darkness and hope. Roberto, a Chilean cultural icon and brother to the legendary Violeta and Nicanor Parra, captured their love and struggle in music and poetry.
His play La Negra Estér, based on their lives, has toured since 1988 and is a true classic, performed to full theatres every summer.
Through the details and fine craftsmanship of the cabinet, I wish to honour their story, the soul of the city, and the magic of the craft – a tale from the streets of San Antonio now carried forward in wood.
This cabinet is completely produced by Ekorre Möbler.
